Pool Toys in Parken: An FCK Tradition Now Honoring the Women's Team Too!

On Sunday, June 8th, F.C. Copenhagen’s women’s team will play their last match of the season — and their very first match in Parken Stadium. That definitely calls for a proper celebration. So we’re encouraging all FCK fans to bring pool toys and help create a festive atmosphere when the stadium clock hits the 13th minute.

As tradition dictates: A dominant season deserves to end with pool toys!

In 2018, we published an interview in our member magazine Brølet with the minds behind the pool toy tifo: Henrik Nielsen, Per Børgesen, and Jan Merling. They shared how it all started. The tradition began back in the summer of 2006. Henrik and Per had gone to Spain in May to watch Real Madrid wrap up their season against Villarreal. During the match, something special happened in the home supporters' stand: a wave of inflatable pool toys, palm trees, and beach balls flew through the air, accompanied by banners with a sarcastic tone. The message was clear — the players had been too relaxed all season, ending up in second place, 12 points behind Barcelona.

When the two friends returned home, they told Jan about it, and the three of them decided to do something similar for F.C. Copenhagen’s last home game of the season against Silkeborg. Out of their own pockets, they bought loads of inflatable toys and beach balls. The league title had already been secured the week before, so there was no need for sarcasm. Instead, the pool toys were used to celebrate the team’s achievement and wish both the players and the fans a great summer holiday.

A tradition was born. Not because of Lalandia (a Danish waterpark. -ed.), as Henrik and Jan clarified back in 2018: “It definitely has nothing to do with Lalandia. Honestly. No fans are out there celebrating the purchase of Lalandia.” Instead, it started because some fans were inspired by something they saw abroad and turned the idea into something truly unique and Copenhagen-esque. Once the season was decided, it became custom to send off the players, fellow fans, and the club into summer break with flying pool toys in the 13th minute.

So now, we invite everyone to continue this tradition for the women’s team on June 8th.
After going unbeaten in the league and earning promotion, they deserve to be celebrated in true F.C. Copenhagen style.

Bring your pool toys to Parken and let them fly in the 13th minute!
Let’s wish each other a great summer after an amazing season — with promotion for our women’s team and a double for the men’s team!
