Criticizable Conditions for Away Fans at Monjasa Park

The following complaint has today been sent to FC Fredericia regarding the unacceptable away section at the Superliga match between FC Fredericia and F.C. Copenhagen on August 1, 2025.

On behalf of F.C. Copenhagen’s official fan club (FCKFC), we hereby submit an official complaint regarding the unsatisfactory conditions that our members and other traveling fans encountered at the match between FC Fredericia and F.C. Copenhagen on August 1, 2025.

We acknowledge that you managed, in a very short time, to increase stadium capacity from 4,000 to 10,000 spectators following promotion to the Superliga, and it is impressive that you expanded Monjasa Park so quickly.

Unfortunately, the newly established away section was completely unfit for the number of spectators who had been sold tickets — in this case, around 2,000 people. We have been informed that the section was supposedly approved for an even higher number, which deeply concerns us. Even with the 2,000 fans who showed up, people were crammed together, posing a significant safety risk, and many were unable to see the match at all.

The design of the section makes it completely impossible to follow the match unless one is standing directly on the terrace. The flat plateau behind the terrace provides visibility for only one row of fans, while the rest — up to five rows yesterday — could only see the backs of the fans in front of them. This meant that many fans effectively never had the opportunity to watch the game.

Even before kickoff, it was clear that the capacity was inadequate, and frustration spread among those who arrived later and had no chance of following the match. We saw many fans trying alternative solutions. Children stood on trash bins or were lifted onto parents' shoulders in hopes of getting a glimpse of the match. As a result, several parents didn’t see a second of the game, as they focused entirely on preventing their children from being disappointed.

Some fans left the stadium even before the match began, and even more left shortly into the first half, when it became clear that the adjacent, empty section along the sideline would not be opened — the explanation being that it was reserved for TV — nor were any alternative solutions attempted to address the problem.

Your security staff seemed equally resigned and even encouraged fans to file complaints. The stadium announcer's attempt at a solution was a cheeky suggestion to "squeeze closer together and show that you like each other," which only added to the frustration.

Of course, challenges can arise when opening a newly built away section, but it is entirely unacceptable not to ensure that paying fans are actually able to watch the match — especially knowing how far many travel to support their team. Even more concerning is the fact that no temporary solutions were implemented once the problems became obvious. This isn’t just about visibility — which, obviously, was appalling — but also about safety, especially in the event of an emergency.

In addition to the above, we have also received complaints regarding your toilet facilities, the lack of ticket checks at the entrance, and missing signage to and around the away section. But all of these issues pale in comparison to not being able to watch a football match one has traveled to see.

We are surprised that you have not yet made a statement or issued an apology to the many fans who couldn’t see the match. We have a clear expectation that you will provide an explanation of how you assessed and approved the capacity of the away section. At the very least, we expect financial compensation for the many fans who never received the product they paid for.

We look forward to your response and an explanation of how you will ensure that similar situations are avoided in the future. Ensuring proper conditions for away fans is absolutely crucial for both safety and the overall experience.

Sincerely,
F.C. Copenhagen Fan Club (FCKFC)
